Visiting student Kirsten Ziesemer wins award for ancient microbiome research conducted at LMAMR!

Kirsten Ziesemer, a PhD student at the University of Leiden, has just won the prestigious Kiem Award, a prize granted for the best first publication written by a young microbiologist. The publication, “Intrinsic challenges in ancient microbiome reconstruction using 16S rRNA gene amplification,” is the result of two years of collaborative research between the University of Leiden and LMAMR on reconstructing the oral microbiome of pre-Columbian inhabitants of the Caribbean. Congratulations, Kirsten!
